Vratsa

Vratsa is the largest city in the Northwestern Bulgaria with a population of 51,674 people as of December 2019, according to data from the National Statistical Institute.

 The city is located about 112 km north of Sofia and 130 km from the Danube Bridge 2 Vidin - Calafat /Romania/.

The economy of the city is focused mainly to industrial production. The industry covers many branches such as mechanical engineering, metalworking, high technology, textile, tailoring, furniture production, food sector, construction, automotive industry, trade, etc. The opening of 3 new plants in the city is forthcoming – these are Teklas-Bulgaria EAD with initial 500 workplaces, MD Electronic with 300 workplaces and Lestoproduct with 70 workplaces. 

There are various retail outlets, incl. also large shopping malls, hypermarkets and showrooms. North of Vratsa there is an ecologically clean zone, which is a prerequisite for the production of quality food products.

The GDP per capita in 2018 for the region is BGN 15,018.

            The development of Vratsa as a tourist destination is one of the main priorities of the Municipality of Vratsa.

Many sports activities are concentrated in the city of Vratsa with a large number of sports clubs, the most popular of which is the Botev Vratsa Football Club. People in Vratsa can also practice water polo, wrestling, sport shooting and athletics, as these sports have a long tradition in the city.
Among the major sports facilities is the Hristo Botev Stadium, which is part of the Hristo Botev Sports Complex with a capacity of 32,000 visitors and 25,000 seats. There are 3 training playgrounds near the stadium. The stadium hosts Botev Vratsa Football Club. Other sites are an indoor and an outdoor swimming pool, a carting track, an indoor athletics track, a volleyball hall, an auto-modeling track and a shooting range.

    Healthcare in Vratsa, as a municipal and regional center, is well represented by healthcare institutions of different nature, such as Multi-Disciplinary Hospital for Active Care “Hristo Botev”, which is the largest medical institution in Northwestern Bulgaria. The hospital has 300 beds and 579 staff. It operates 22 departments and structural units.
    In Vratsa also operate the First Private Multi-Disciplinary Hospital for Active Treatment, Specialized Hospital for Active Treatment of Pneumo-Physiatric Diseases, Complex Oncology Center, Center for Skin and Venereal Diseases, Center for Mental Health, Diagnostic and Consulting Center-1, Medical and Technical Laboratory in dental prosthesis, Specialized Eye Hospital for Active Treatment-Ralchovski, Center for emergency medical care, Medical Center "Alpiko", Medical Center "St. Ivan Rilski", "New Medical Center", Medical Center "St. Anna", Medical Center "Sanita"
    There are over 30 pharmacies in the town of Vratsa.
